Aim of the Conference

To discuss recent developments in the field of Growth Hormone and somatic growth, such as: i) the basic mechanisms involved in the neuropeptidegene expression; ii) pituitary cell development, including their alterations in disease states and pituitary stem-cells; iii) molecular taxonomy of growth-hormone effects and new therapeutic indications; iv) the significance of IGF-1 and its binging proteins in health and disease.

Learning Objectives

After the conclusion of this conference, the participants will be familiar with:

i) The regulation of growth hormone synthesis and secretion

ii) The relationship between growth hormone and metabolic status

iii) Basic mechanisms involved in somatotroph cell development

iv) Newer approaches for the understanding of somatotroph cell biology and GH actions

v) The characterization of pituitary stem cells and the use of micro arrays

vi) Biological consequences of GH-IGF-1 alterations and new therapeutic indications of GH
