Call for Contributions

Papers submitted for consideration as oral or poster contributions within the topics outlined in this announcement are welcome. Each oral presentation will be allotted 20 min. The actual talk should be no longer than 15 min to allow time for questions, discussion and changeover to the next speaker. A permanent poster exhibition will be displayed. Posters should fit on a 180 cm high x 120 cm wide space. The organisers reserve the right to decide whether a contribution will be presented orally or as a poster, and may suggest that a proposed poster contribution be presented orally if helpful in organising balanced thematic sessions.

Authors must submit an abstract of the presentation for review and selection. Preference will be given to those including new ideas and original material. Abstracts will be considered only in the case that at least one of the authors has paid registration fee.

All the abstracts will be included in an Abstract volume that will be distributed at the beginning of the Conference. Please, follow carefully the instructions for preparation of abstracts, in order to ensure standardized formats.

The abstract, including the title and references, cannot exceed one A4 page (210 x 297 mm) in length, with a 25 mm margin throughout (left/right/top/bottom). Lines should be single spaced and the text done in Times, in font size 12. Each abstract should have the following elements:

TITLE: The paper title is printed in BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS, with the exception of scientific names which should be Upper/lower case and italicised. Scientific names should not be preceded or followed by commas or parentheses or other markings. Leave a double space between the title and the authors list.

AUTHORS: Full names of authors should be written in bold upper and lower case, not all capitals. Indicate the presenting author with an asterisk. Leave a double space between the authors list and affiliations.

AFFILIATIONS: All affiliations should follow the authors list. Use only institution (omit department, division, branch, street address etc.), followed by city, state and country. Affiliations should be written in upper and lower case, not all capitals. Leave a double space between the affiliations and the body of the abstract.

ABSTRACT TEXT: Paragraphs should be separated by a blank line and should not be indented. Figures and tables should not be included. Leave a double space between the text and the reference list (if used).

REFERENCE LIST: References should be single spaced. Journal titles should be abbreviated.

Submission of abstracts

Abstracts should be submitted to the Conference Secretariat before the deadline of January 15th, 2002. Authors will be notified whether their abstracts have been accepted, within six weeks from that date. Printed abstract (print in black ink on good quality white paper) is required. Abstract should also be submitted on a labelled computer disk (3.5’’ only) saved in the original word processing software (Word, Wordperfect, etc.) and also in ASCII (text) format. The disk label should include the type of software and version number (ie: Word 6.0), and format (either PC or MAC). All abstracts must be accompanied by an Abstract form (one for each abstract).

Alternatively, submission of abstracts on line will be possible using the form below:

Submission of manuscripts

Conference Proceedings containing accepted papers (oral contributions and posters) will be published as a book and made available to participants as part of the registration fee. The widest distribution of the book with the Conference Proceedings will be attempted. Submitted full manuscripts will be reviewed and edited by an expert panel. Instructions to prepare the full manuscript are the same as for the Journal of Shellfish Research, which can be consulted in the website:

www.shellfish.org/pubs/instruc.htm

There will be no page charges for publication of manuscripts in the Conference Proceedings. Full manuscripts should be submitted to the Conference Secretariat before the deadline of June 8, 2002.

Conference audio-visual facilities

Slide projectors, overheads, laser pointers and Power Point projectors will be available in the Conference room. There will also be a room for slide pre-views and speakers should present their slides to the technicians there at least half–a-day before they are due to speak. If additional equipment were required, please contact the organisation at icmss@cimacoron.org.

Delegates giving Power Point presentations should bring their presentations either on PC-formatted floppy 3.5 inch disk, Zip disks, or CD ROM (preferably two different supports in order to avoid incompatibilities). The presentation must be loaded onto the hard drive of the dedicated PC connected to the projector well before the session begins. Presentations prepared with an earlier version of Power Point than Microsoft Office XP, must be opened and saved on the hard drive of the dedicated PC so that no time is wasted updating presentations. It is also advisable to bring a back-up version of the talk as overheads or slides-just in case technology fails.
